Animal Sudoku: Nine Species, No Two Alike
Animal Sudoku is classic Sudoku played with nine animal tiles — cat, dog, lion, monkey, panda, fox, frog, penguin, and elephant. Take it as a picture puzzle, a number puzzle, or a bit of each; whoever is on the board, each tile appears exactly once in every row, column, and box.
The easiest board on the site to scan
This set was chosen for maximum contrast: nine different species, nine different silhouettes, nine different colours. Our Dog Sudoku goes the opposite way — five similar dogs that reward careful looking — but this board is the friendly cousin, and it is the one we suggest when someone just wants a picture Sudoku that reads at a glance. The only pair worth watching is the cat and the fox, who share an orange face at phone size; if they swap places in your head, the Both display mode puts a small number on every tile.
Who joins the board, and when
Tiles come aboard in order as the grid grows. The 4x4 board is the cat, dog, lion, and monkey; the panda and fox pad in at 6x6; and the frog, penguin, and elephant complete the full 9x9. The elephant, as is traditional, arrives last — and takes up exactly as much room as everyone else.
If your table only has eyes for one species, Dog Sudoku plays the same game with an all-dog tile set — and a harder scanning challenge to go with it.
A first board for the smallest solvers
Animals are the one theme a child can name before they can read, which makes this a genuine first Sudoku. On 4x4 Easy, a very young player can simply hunt for the missing animal in each row — that is real elimination logic, even if nobody at the table calls it that. The same board then grows with them: 6x6 when rows and boxes start to click, 9x9 when they are ready to beat you at it.
One rule runs the zoo
